My period is over a week late so this evening I finally plucked up the courage to test, I’ve been putting it off as I’m really scared of the disappointment.
I did the test by peeing into a pot and dipping the absorbent tip in for 20 secs, this to me seemed like the more accurate method than holding in the urine stream for 5 secs, and as it’s evening and not my first morning pee I wanted to give it as much change of being accurate as poss.

I laid it flat as instructed and after about a minute a symbol of an arrow and a book appeared, the instructions say this means there was an error with the test in that the test might have been turned so the absorbent tip might have facing upwards (it wasn’t, I was careful to ensure) or that too much or too little urine was placed on the tip.

It sounds ridiculous but I actually could cry with frustration. I really built myself up to take the test, pep talking myself all the way on my drive home from work.

Now not sure what to do... test again tonight or wait til the morning when my HCG levels will be higher? Not really ideal taking the test in the morning then going to work, I won’t be able to think of anything else all day if I do get the result I want!

Also what’s to say that the same won’t happen, as I followed the instructions to a T.

Help!! :(

Ah that's so frustrating, both for getting the courage to test and also at how bloody expensive those tests are! At over a week late though you should get a pretty clear result at any time of the day if you did want to nip out and get another test, good luck!

I'd just do another test. The instructions say it's ok to do it at any time of the day once you've missed your period. Good luck!!

Agree with pps if your a week late any time of day should pick up a positive, I might be wrong but I think you’ve done it the wrong way round I think ( I’m happy to be corrected) but I think you should hold it under a stream of urine for longer than you would dip it, so hold under a stream for twenty secs or dip for 5-10 secs, if that makes sense, you could have possibly flooded the test, good luck!!

Think I will, just really disappointing when I had really psych’d myself up, really given myself a pep talk on how I’d feel with either result and just didn’t expect that error.

Would you ladies suggest doing the same method as before (dip in pee pot) or holding in pee stream? Don’t want to fudge it again!!

Lmphy, that would make sense but according to the instructions, it’s a 20 sec dip...

Weird!

I think you got the timings right. I've just done the digital test and also the normal one. The digital worked (BFP -yey) but the normal one didn't.
I think they aren't all they are cracked up to be!

I understand especially if you’ve geared yourself for it, personally I’m a dipper, could you not go and get yourself a cheaper test tonight then you’ll know?

@Josico58 the exact same thing happened to me! Was so annoyed when I saw the book symbol! So I did another one but this time I used my phone to time 20 seconds exactly and it worked. Think I over estimated before that.

Ladies I just did the 2nd test and I got a BFP!!!!! 2-3 weeks.

I’m in utter shock!!

Funny to think that 10 mins ago I was feeling so down about the error test!!!

Just waiting for hubby to finish work and can give him the news!!! Don’t think I will sleep tonight!!!

Thank you for encouraging me to do another test :) I would have probably put it off for fear again!!!!

This is my first pregnancy so now just need to figure out what to do next!

I’m so happy I could cry!! Maybe that’s why I felt so emotional about messing up the first test
