We'd like to share some more crucial takeaways from our recent student survey. We know that increasingly there is a shift by recruiters and talent professionals to look for skills when hiring but, what are employers - not just the professionals. This was one of the questions we asked Year 9-13 students at recent career events, Future Fest and The Bucks Skills Show. The choices were:🟩 Attitude🟩 Hard work🟩 Confidence🟩 Willingness to learnOf course, in the real world, the big picture matters: the role, company culture and industry all play a part in how these traits are prioritised. And they’re not looked at in isolation – an ideal candidate is well-rounded, with a combo of these qualities. But generally, employers agree that the shift to skills and willingness is now top of the list. So, what did the students think?42.4% of the students felt that employers valued hard work most highly, while 33.9% believed that attitude matters most. But only 11.9% rated willingness to learn as a top priority with employers, with confidence getting just 8.5% of the votes.Students were right about confidence. While crucial for client-facing or leadership roles, it needs to be balanced with other qualities so as not to come across as arrogance. What struck me most was that the students didn’t recognise that ‘willingness to learn’ is so desirable. We must share with our young people how much employers value an adaptable candidate who enthusiastically takes on new skills and challenges. And how a positive, can-do, curious approach boosts a team’s morale can, for some businesses, be just as important as the work produced.

1 in 6 people in the workplace experience challenges with their mental health.1 in 6.Depression and anxiety are the reason for many sickness days, but what about those individuals who remain in work whilst they are struggling? What support is available for them? The wellbeing of your people should mean so much more than high satisfaction scores on your employee surveys, it is the foundation on which everything is built.Often as business owners it can be easy to fall into the trap of finding efficiencies and streamlining processes in order to save money and invest, but sometimes this means investing in your people moves down the list of priorities. The knock-on effect may not be felt straight away, but people who do not feel supported or happy at work will start to show the signs over time, often at the detriment of business productivity and staff retention.Your people are your biggest asset, and seeing stats like these in 2024 is really disappointing. What can we do to bring mental wellbeing at work to the forefront?#MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwareness #YouAreNotAlonehttps://lnkd.in/etfkCtij
