Is a 60 passing in Texas? ›

Most colleges still award passing credit for a grade of D, and a college D usually denotes a numerical average of 60 to 69. So why do Texas K-12 schools persist in inflating the value of a D to 70-74?

Students must meet minimum academic standards in work completed at Texas State. Those who fail to do so are placed on academic probation or academic suspension, as appropriate. A passing grade in an associate- or bachelor-level program is a D- or a numerical grade of 60. A passing grade in a master-level program is a C or a numerical grade of 73.

We also recognize that students from accredited non-public, out-of-state, or out-of-country schools may have transcripts that record letter grades or that indicate awarded credit for courses with grades lower than the Texas passing standard of 70.

With a GPA of 3.31, Texas State accepts below-average students. It's OK to be a B-average student, with some A's mixed in.

The grade earned at the transferring institution is the grade Texas State uses (pluses and minuses are not calculated). A grade of D or F does transfer for admission purposes but may not be accepted by the student's major department.

Repeating Courses

A student may repeat a course but cannot receive credit for the course more than once unless the course description in the catalog specifically provides that the course may be repeated for credit.

What grades do you need for Texas State? ›

Above average academic achievement is demonstrated by means of class rank (i.e. being ranked by your school in the top half of the class) or have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0. Applications must also have an education equivalent to that of a U.S. high school graduate.

The 3-Peat Rule was passed by the State of Texas to discourage students from repeating courses. Texas residents attempting the same course for a third time since Fall 2002 will be charged an additional $100 per credit hour for that course.

Furthermore, colleges typically emphasize your performance in the core subject areas when evaluating your transcript. If you have a strong overall academic record with good grades in your core courses, then one pass/fail course is unlikely to raise any red flags.

What does it mean to be in “good academic standing”? What does it mean to be “subject to disqualification”? When a student's cumulative (overall) and current (most recent term) grade point averages are 2.0 or better, that student is in good academic standing. If either the cumulative or current G.P.A.

Most colleges and universities generally consider a "D" (or a 60% to 69% score) as a passing grade. It's important to note that this minimum or lowest passing grade standard can significantly vary depending on the institution or major. For instance, some universities may require a "C" or better to pass.

Distinction: much like a First at undergraduate level, a Distinction is awarded when you achieve a percentage grade of 70% and above. Merit: you'll be awarded a Merit if you achieve a grade average between 60-69%. Pass: a pass is awarded when you receive a grade average between 50-59%.

What is a passing grade? Many college grading systems consider a D, or 65 percent, to be the lowest passing grade.
